International Self Care Day

International Self Care Day

Compared to other countries, the UK is ahead of the curve when it comes to implementing support for self care in communities, although International Self Care Day on 24 July creates an opportunities for global health organisations to come together.  To remind everyone, everywhere to self care, all day every day, 24/7.

Our chair, Helen Donovan (above), a Self Care Champion and a number of trustees made short videos especially for International Self Care Day to discuss what’s important to them when it comes to self care, social prescribing and reducing health inequalities.

Here, Trustee and Chief Pharmacist at Bedminster Pharmacy in Bristol, Ade Williams talks about self care being a tool for community pharmacy.

Dr Michelle Howarth from Salford University, and Self Care Forum Trustee talks about the use of social prescribing and how it can help people to self care.

Board member, Donna Castle from PAGB makes the point that self care is not no care.

Professor Jamie Waterall from Public Health England and Self Care Champion talks about people with long term conditions taking care and control of their own health for all but four hours a year.
